Client:
The Royal Academy of Arts, Summer Exhibition Preview Party
Creative Agency:
Fisher Productions
Summary:
The Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition Preview Party – a successful annual event marked as a landmark in the art world calendar, attended by celebrated names from art, fashion and literature. The Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition is the world’s largest open-submission contemporary art show, and the preview party marks the opening for each year.
Without obstructing the walls of art, using transparency and reflections – a series of installations, food and drinks bars and performance areas were designed and produced for guests touring the preview of exhibition. Kaiser Chiefs brought the event to a close with a performance in the outdoor courtyard, marking the exhibition officially open.
Concept:
Modern and rural Scandinavia heavily influenced the creative approach of the installations, bars and hospitality spaces – bringing the outdoors in, into the traditional art galleries.
Highlights included – A central bar inside a modern Scandinavian timber house. An ‘infinity forest’ using reflections to reflect the trunks of a tree, and reflect the surrounding art pieces on the wall. And finally a dessert bar set within a 2-dimensional cut-out of a retro caravan, to bring a sense of humour to the gallery spaces. Guests collected their deserts through the caravan windows, and could even sit on a picnic chair to eat.
Large ‘RA’ letters sat as a focal point as the Kaiser Chiefs played to guests within the outdoor courtyard to finish the evening.
