Summary: 

Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity – the annual gathering of the creative community from the worlds of advertising and marketing for one week in the heart of Cannes in the South of France. Over the course of the week, Instagram showcased the platform’s creative community, through an interactive art gallery installation. Guests of the festival arriving at the main hall of the awards – the epicentre of the festival, were greeted to the colourful Instagram art gallery installation, ‘Step into the Frame’.

Here, guests of the festival wandered in wonder. From the outside, the space appears to be a traditional art gallery. Inside, guests discovered they can step through the frames, and go behind the gallery walls to discover and meet the creators. This became a unique opportunity for guests of the festival to understand how Instagram has given exposure and presence to the creators, and how the platform has elevated their business.

Concept: 

Instagram is a digital space for creators to publish creative content. A physical representation of this was conceived and built as an art gallery for visitors to explore. Users of instagram consistently see frames of content on an instagram feed which act as a window into the world of the creator who’s published it. Here, the frames of the art gallery are physical windows for visitors to physically step into. Here they learn more about the piece of work shown, and the story behind the creator who’s created it. 

The art gallery installation, not only portrayed the works of artists and creators – it housed sensory spaces to explore. From a reflective corridor of mirrors, to a soundscape within a forest of scented flowers. Whilst the story of the artists and creators remained the core focus of the experience, the sensory journey guided guests from beginning to end.
